A properly installed paver patio can last 25–50 years. Pavers themselves are extremely durable — the key variable is base quality. Our installations use 8–10" of compacted crushed aggregate beneath the paver bed, which accounts for Wisconsin's frost depth and minimizes heaving over time. Concrete slabs typically crack within 10–15 years; a paver patio with a good base should outlast the house.
Some minor seasonal movement is normal in climates with deep frost lines, but a properly installed patio with an adequate compacted base and good drainage will stay substantially level and flat year over year.
